Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program
The Housing Authority of the County of Chester (HACC) proudly partners with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to administer the HUD-VASH Program—a vital housing initiative that provides rental assistance and supportive services to homeless veterans in our community.
🏠 What is the HUD-VASH Program?
The HUD-VASH Program combines rental assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program with the VA’s case management and clinical services. These services help eligible veterans:
- Secure stable, long-term housing
- Access medical care and mental health support
- Rebuild their lives with dignity and stability
Veterans participating in the VASH program receive ongoing support from a dedicated VA caseworker, ensuring they have the tools and resources to maintain a successful tenancy.
👥 How the Program Works
- HACC provides rental assistance in the form of a Housing Choice Voucher.
- The VA provides supportive services, including case management, health care access, and referrals to community resources.
- Landlords lease their units directly to the veteran, just as they would in the private market, with the additional benefit of stable, on-time housing payments and case management support for the tenant.
📣 Landlords—Join the Mission: House a Veteran
HACC is actively seeking new landlords to partner with us in providing safe, affordable housing to veterans in need. By renting to a veteran through the VASH program, you are making a direct and meaningful impact in the life of someone who has served our country.
Benefits to Landlords:
- Guaranteed rent through the Housing Authority
- Ongoing case management and support from VA professionals
- Reduced turnover—many VASH participants remain long-term tenants
- A chance to give back to the community and support those who served
